Macbook Air Cyber Monday 2016

Getting good deals on Apple products can be extremely tricky, because the company sticks very firmly to the more expensive end of the market, but if you know what you're doing then Black Friday is a great time to pick up some iDevices on the cheap.

We'll be tracking deals throughout the Black Friday holiday period, including Cyber Monday, and any bargains we manage to find on iPhones, iPads, and Macbooks will be posted here. This article is being updated daily, so check back in often so you don't miss out. What's for sure is that any deals that are posted will sell out fairly quickly.

Apple is having a Black Friday sale right now, and is basically offering Apple gift cards with purchases of select items. It's not the greatest of deals, but considering that the company doesn't usually offer money off any of its products, it's definitely better than nothing. Details are available here.

Black Friday deals on iPhones

By the time Black Friday 2016 rolls around, Apple will have two (or three) brand new iPhones on the market, and chances of getting good deals on them are going to be slim – your best bet is to see if someone's offering a discounted bundle with a contract.

For older iPhones, it's a different story: you might be able to pick up an iPhone SE or an iPhone 6S for a very good price indeed. Anything older than that and you're starting to get into territory where battery life and performance are noticeably inferior.

Persistence and a keen eye are key if you want a Black Friday iPhone deal. Remember second-hand and refurbed models are also an option, though even here Apple handsets tend to hold their value very well, making big reductions unlikely.

Black Friday deals on MacBooks

In recent years Apple has let the gaps between MacBook refreshes grow wider and wider, across all the three model types: the MacBook, the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro. You can quite often get some decent deals on Black Friday, though it tends to be older hardware that gets the biggest discounts.

That means your choice could well be determined by what Apple decides to launch laptop-wise in the next three months. With the high ticket prices of MacBooks, discounts can run into the couple of hundred pounds (or dollars) but make sure you know exactly what you're buying and how long it's been on the shelves.

Mac minis, Mac Pros and iMacs might also see some discounts, though they'll be less popular than the MacBooks. Key to your bargain hunting should be CPU speed (and age), amount of RAM, and storage space.

Black Friday deals on other Apple gear

Apple makes a plethora of kit these days, including iPads, Apple Watches and Apple TVs, plus all of those official accessories. Retailers know Apple goods are popular so the best Black Friday strategy is to know what you want and turn up early to find it.

With a new Apple TV announced in September 2015 it could be in line for a significant price cut, and the original Apple Watch (April 2015) is another strong candidate. Of the tablets, we'd expect the non-Pro and mini iPads to be the best options for bargain hunters, with the 12.9-inch and 7.9-inch iPad Pros aimed at the top end of the market.

The Apple rumour mill is always very busy so it's worth checking out the latest speculation before you buy. A new product arriving just after Black Friday means yours will be out of date faster, but it's also an opportunity to bag some major price reductions.

We'll be posting details of plenty of other deals throughout the Black Friday shopping period from stores and online retailers including Amazon, Target, GameStop, Best Buy, Sam's Club, Walmart, and Toys R Us. Where to find your Apple bargains

Apple is traditionally very stingy when it comes to Black Friday deals run through its own website, particularly outside the US, but it has been known to offer a few discounts here and there on the products that are less in demand when November rolls around.

Otherwise check out the major Apple retailers for discounts. In previous years we've seen money knocked off Apple hardware at Best Buy, B&H Photo, Target and MacMall, though really they can pop up anywhere where Apple kit is sold.

Sometimes we include links to online retail stores. If you click on one and make a purchase we may receive a small commission. See our terms & conditions.
